Money to be made from mobile application development

3rd March 2010

The creator of the Car Locator application for the Android platform claims he is earning over $400 a day from it.

Writing on his blog, Edward Kim, the developer of the application, says there have been 6,590 paid downloads of it from Android Market since it was released five months ago, with prices ranging from $1.99 to $3.99.

Kim also expressed his belief that the platform will continue to grow, writing: "I still think that Android is only a fraction of what it will eventually become.

"Each release of a new Android handset gets me excited, as it means a wider reach for the Marketplace."

Despite the views of many that the Apple Apps Store is where developers should go if they want to make money, the case of Car Locator goes to show how far the Android platform has come.

With Google recently reporting that 60,000 Android handsets are being sold a day around the world, it is clear that the user-base for applications is rapidly growing.

The emergence of tablets such as the Archos 7 running on Android will also add to this market, meaning more businesses could benefit from mobile application development.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19649200-ADNFCR
