A technology expert has outlined why Android is the superior platform both for consumers and for those looking at mobile application development.
Writing for Infoworld, Peter Wayner says that the Java foundation of the operating system is particularly attractive to developers as it is enables them to build applications quickly and easily.
He also points out that Android can work on a number of different sized screens, as opposed to the Apple iPhone and upcoming iPad.
Summing up the advantages of the Android platform, he says that best part is that it is "giving people the freedom to use the platform as they want. Considering that people have been using this freedom relatively successfully with PCs for decades, it's a welcome opportunity in the world of handhelds".
Wayner used the Nexus One as the Android device to compare the iPhone to, and it is set to be made available in the UK in April, according to recent reports.
The handset will be sold directly from the Google website and is expected to be available only on the Vodaphone network initially.
