Archos has unveiled two new devices into its Home Tablet range that will run on the Android platform.
The Archos 7 and Archos 8 tablets aim to bridge the gap between desktop devices and smartphones with a large-screen, handheld device.
Importantly, both run on the Android, an operating system that has already enjoyed success on smartphones, allowing users to browse the web through a Wi-Fi connection and display multimedia content.
Crucially, applications can also be downloaded from Android Market, meaning businesses and web developers have yet another outlet for the mobile application development.
Announcing the devices, the company said: "Archos Home Tablet brings the best of web browsing, multimedia, live information, social networking and applications into the home."
Inevitably, the two new products, which will be released later in the spring, have already been compared to the Apple iPad, another tablet-style device.
A recent report by Geeky Gadgets has suggested that the iPad will sell for a minimum of £389 when it hits the British market with an expected release in April rather than March, as originally announced.
