Retailers missing out on billions because of poor web design

1st March 2010

Businesses may be losing out on billions in revenue because they are in need of bespoke web development.

In a survey of 2,033 consumers Hostway, a web hosting company, found that on average people abandoned 5.5 per cent of their transactions online because of poorly performing websites.

Of the respondents, 46 per cent said that the biggest problem with websites was that web pages were taking too long to load up while 24 per cent were annoyed by advertising. Poor navigation and bad web links made up the rest of the consumers' gripes.

Despite £38 billion being spent online in this country last year, Neil Barton, director at Hostway, believes many websites are still leaving users frustrated.

He added: "With many of today’s websites containing a lot more multimedia content, it is important that consumers receive a good online experience otherwise they may simply abandon their transaction."

The impact of redesigning a website was recently shown by sports cards website Deanscards.com, which saw a 35 per cent rise in sales after undertaking bespoke web development.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19644035-ADNFCR
