T-Mobile has announced that it is to release the Pulse mini, a slimmed-down version of the Pulse, for £99.99 on pay-as-you-go.
Nicola Shenton, head of handset and device marketing at T-Mobile UK, said that the company wants to make Android phones available to as many people as possible.
She added: "The Pulse Mini will no doubt prove a big hit with customers looking for cutting-edge smartphone features without the commitment of a monthly contract."
For any business or organisation, it means the door could be opened for even more customers to have access to the applications market.
Although they are becoming increasingly competitively-priced, an aspect of smartphones that has often deterred users is that they can sometimes only be affordable when subsidised by a contract.
The number of Android handsets had rapidly expanded over the past year with many of the major manufacturers now using the platform.
According to figures from Gartner, the number of handsets loaded with the operating system grew from 640,500 in 2008 to 6.8 million in 2009, taking its market share from 0.5 per cent to 3.9 per cent.
