New figures give a good understanding of the users of Android platform, and a better idea of how mobile application development should go forward.
Research by AdMob shows that the average Android user downloads nine applications per month and spends 80 minutes a day using them.
In terms of general usage, 73 per cent of Android users are male, compared to the iPhone, which is 56 per cent male.
Meanwhile, 84 per cent of Android users said that they would recommend it to someone else.
Interestingly, the company says that 12 per cent of requests for its services came from non-phone devices compared to 17 per cent in July, suggesting a growth in the mobile internet device category, which will soon include the Apple iPad.
Earlier this month, Eric Schmidt, chief executive of Google, stated that 60,000 Android handsets are being sold every day around the world.
This would equate to a figure of around 22 million a year.
