Like businesses and organisations of all sizes, the BBC is going to implement bespoke website development in order to keep it fresh.
In a blog post, Bronwyn van der Merwe, head of design and user experience at BBC Future Media and Technology goes into technical detail about the redesign as well as explaining why the corporation is doing it.
He said: "We wanted to find the soul of the BBC. We wanted something distinctive and recognisable; we wanted drama. We knew whatever we created needed to be truly cross-platform and that we needed to simplify our user journeys."
Like every bespoke website design, the BBC wants the next version to be able to "stand out from the crowd" while also making its interfaces "simple, useful and intuitive".
According to Alexa, the BBC wesbite is the sixth most viewed in the country and sits in the top 50 for global rankings.
Funded by the licence-fee, it provides a wide range of services including news, sport, weather and travel as well as catch-up television through the iPlayer.
