Bespoke business websites should employ 'social media editors'

4th February 2010

By Chris Hoult

Business-based bespoke websites should look at employing dedicated social media editors, according to an industry expert.

Rachel Sklar, former editor of the Huffington Post, said that larger firms in particular should look at recruiting dedicated editors for social media platforms as the duties involved become more time consuming.

At the Social Media Week panel at the Time and Life Building in New York, Ms Sklar said that social media roles were "not joke positions ... they're real and they matter so much".

She added that "serious, qualified, awesome people" often fill such roles.

Figures published this week by Gartner, analysts of the IT industry, suggest that by 2014, one in five companies will use social media ahead of email as their primary form of communication.

Earlier this week (February 1st), Laura Christianson, writing for Snohomish County Business Journal, told website owners that the addition of social media modules could transform their online presence.
