Mobile application development could be set to surge on Android-supported devices, according to an expert.
Mobile News CWP reports that Ben Wood, director with CSS Insight, says that traditional vendors may struggle as Android enabled handsets become more popular.
He suggests that there could be as many as 50 Android smart phones available on the market by the end of 2010, noting that there has "been a lot of noise around Android with the release of the Nexus One".
Mr Wood added that dealers should be "very excited" about the influx of Android phones noting that a reduction in cost could be about to make them "very accessible".
Earlier this year, Conrad Longmore, editor of Mobile Gazette, noted that mobile application development on Android devices would help those smart phones supporting the mobile operating system compete with Apple.
Mr Longmore argued that consumers are attracted to the significant range of applications available on Apple products.
