Web 2.0 is a good starting point for companies that want to adopt a social media strategy.
This is the claim made by Neil Berman in an article for Mediapost's Email Insider.
He explained that social media can be used by a company to research its market and ask people questions about the kind of service they would like to receive.
Promotions can also be run via Facebook and advertised using Twitter.
"Social media is unique because it disarms prospects by building a connection with them in advance," Mr Berman explained.
Email campaigns are becoming more influenced by social media, he added.
He suggested that emails include a feature for sharing content.
Ecommerces could also benefit by using links to improve their search engine optimisation (SEO).
According to Erin Weinger of Entrepreneur magazine, being linked to by reputable websites improves a site's ranking in Google searches.
She suggested bettering SEO performance by making the best use of links.
