Bespoke websites 'must focus on speed and local search'

21st January 2010

Loading times and local search are two things bespoke websites will need to focus on in 2010, a professional has said.

In a Coast Digital blog post, Ashley Fletcher pointed out that the speed at which webpages load is something Google's new Caffeine update takes into account when placing hits for a search.

He also noted that there has been a lot of emphasis lately on the need for websites to load quickly.

Additionally, Mr Fletcher predicted that Google will improve search rankings based on local relevance and foresaw more inbound links that are based on location.

"I predict Google to tighten the algorithm of local listing further, so it won't be (potentially) as easy to achieve quick wins in this area," he said.

Meanwhile, Technorati blogger Carla Baldock highlighted the importance of researching key phrases properly and suggested bunching them together at least two at a time.

She added that key phrases ought to be present in the page title and high up in the content of the page.
