Too many Flash animations are detrimental to an ecommerce website, a writer has said.
In a blog post for Smallbiz Central, Niccolinas Soto warned that overuse of such effects in a bespoke website will distract customers and draw attention away from the products that are being sold.
She also gave some website design tips, such as using a solid colour for the background and business logo.
In addition, websites need to be easy to navigate and any purchase incentives, such as discounts, must be clearly visible.
Ms Soto advised against using a design that would be better suited to a social networking profile as this would not look professional.
"If you are running a business, look like one," she wrote.
Advice on web design for ecommerce was recently given in an article on inc.com.
It suggested that website content should be easy to share in order to bring new visitors to the website.
Widgets exist to help encourage users to pass on content and information that they find on a particular webpage.
