Mobile applications development: Revenue 'to rise'

19th January 2010

Mobile applications will see a growth in revenue in 2010, it has been predicted.

According to KPMG, mobile users will also make more small payments in order to download digital products and services.

Other foreseen trends include a rise in eBooks being bought for smartphones and for Android to take some market share from Apple's App Store, which is currently the strong leader in the sector.

Mark Harding, KPMG's director of digital content, said that mobile applications "have developed considerably as a driver of growth over the past six months".

He said that this proves their power as a "new business model".

The research is the fourth Business Confidence Index compiled by KPMG for MEF.

Leigh Geary of CoolSmartPhone.com recently said that the iPhone by Apple could have its market dominance threatened in the future by free apps from Android.

At present, however, the number of iPhones in use means that there is no immediate rival, he stated. ADNFCR-2036-ID-19565028-ADNFCR
