Companies have been warned against trying too hard to carry out search engine optimisation (SEO) tactics.
SEO Consult explained that keyword stuffing or adding too many links can cause search engines to classify a page as spam and pass it over.
Websites deemed to be unnecessarily stuffed to try to game the search engines may be penalised by being ranked lower or removed from the index completely.
There is no exact formula for working out an optimum keyword or link density in a webpage but reading through content to see how well it scans can help, as can limiting it to one or two words per paragraph.
Poorly-written or computer-generated copy, also called zombie content, is bad for a website's search engine ranking as well as being unattractive to viewers.
Jazzou.com blogger Louis Thomas suggests producing "unique and authentic" text for a website in order to get the best results from SEO.
