Internet trends: Firms 'will move towards cloud computing'

31st December 2009

The use of cloud computing will increase in the coming year, an industry professional has said.

In news to interest firms that may have bespoke websites, Rob Lovell predicted that small and medium businesses (SMBs) are set to become more aware of the benefits of cloud technology in 2010.

The ThinkGrid chief executive officer said that cloud computing is well suited to SMBs, pointing out advantages such as the regularity of monthly payments and the simplification of IT services.

"Getting rid of the IT management burden will be a real positive for SMBs in 2010," he stated.

In addition, Mr Lovell noted that being flexible and mobile will become increasingly important for such enterprises and that cloud computing could help to deliver on these.

Gareth Williams, a senior analyst for Analysys Mason, recently cited the cost-effective nature of cloud technology as a reason for its popularity during the economic slump.
