Mobile applications development 'empower shoppers'

29th December 2009

Consumers will enjoy significantly more power thanks to mobile applications development.

This is the claim made by Chris Russell, director of eDigitalResearch.

Commenting on online shopping trends in the current sales period, he predicted that consumer behaviour will change thanks to "new smart mobile devices and applications bringing more empowerment".

Mr Russell added that this technology will have an effect on the way people shop both over the internet and in bricks-and-mortar stores.

Another factor that will affect online shopping trends is the price of fuel, according to the professional.

He explained that as it becomes more expensive, people will research goods over the internet and make more use of "click and collect" features to reduce the number of fruitless journeys they have to make.

Recent figures from the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Index show that £5.3 billion was spent over the internet by consumers in November.

This demonstrated a 25 per cent increase on October's statistic.
