Avoid duplicate content in bespoke website redesigns

24th December 2009

Firms which have bespoke websites have been advised against duplicating content when carrying out a redesign.

Writing for ISEdb.com, Jill Whalen gave some advice to companies which may be considering revamping their websites as the year draws to a close.

She warned that duplicated content should be avoided and suggested a system of categorisation to help keep the site relevant to searchers.

Goods that can be classed as services as well as products, for example, could be listed in both of these categories, which prevents having to repeat the same content over the website.

Top level pages should be written to answer questions the searcher may have and promote the business's products as useful.

Earlier this month, eMarketer blogger Debra Aho Williamson predicted that search will improve in 2010 thanks to the addition of real-time content such as Twitter entries.

Search engines will also collate data from users in order to make the results more relevant, she said.
