Bespoke web design 'will be affected by Google page speed'

23rd December 2009

Graphic designers will need to take Google page speed into account as they carry out bespoke web design in 2010.

This is the assertion made by Kevin Gibbons of SEOptimise to Econsultancy blogger Graham Charlton.

Mr Gibbons predicted that the search engine's speed is "likely to have a strong impact on designers/developers".

He pointed out that people will need to know how badly slower loading sites will be penalised by Google and foresaw an "interesting" time ahead in assessing the influence of the page speed system.

The expert added that 2010 will be a time to gauge the effect of the recently launched Google Wave, whose popularity is still unclear.

Andrew Renfern recently used a Hit Search article to explain how the campaign to get rock band Rage Against the Machine to number one in the singles charts for Christmas had demonstrated how powerful social media can be.

It started as a Facebook group but spread quickly over the internet by word of mouth.
