Use of social media in bespoke websites will become crucial in the new year, it has been claimed.
Sienna Farris used an AdWeek article to outline a number of predictions regarding internet trends for 2010.
According to her, next year it will become common understanding that social media is not just a novelty gimmick, but a serious and vital marketing strategy.
She urged firms to ensure that they "listen and respond" with their Web 2.0 strategies and to realise that it takes more than "slapping a brand page on Facebook and hoping for the best".
Mobile applications development also featured on her list of foreseeable trends, with augmented reality continuing its growth and businesses capitalising on this technology.
In addition, smartphones will be used more for location-based social networking, according to her predictions.
Harry Dennis recently wrote a BizTimes article in which he declared that social media "is here to stay" and that businesses need to make use of it.
