Search trends 'will change in 2010'

21st December 2009

There will be a "fundamental shift" in the way search engines operate next year, according to a professional.

David Hollands-Hurst, search engine optimisation expert, urged companies to make sure that tailor made websites are designed to fit real-time and localised search, as these were said to be the major trends for 2010.

He noted that Google and Yahoo will give users more localised searches and also noted that Twitter results will be appearing as well, giving more emphasis to real-time searching.

"Businesses must continue to use Twitter and blogs so that you have real-time links coming back in, because Google will consider that more relevant," he explained.

Recent research by the Internet Advertising Bureau and Insites Consultancy has shown that over 40 per cent of people do not look beyond the first ten hits given by a search engine.

In addition, 70 per cent will not look further than the first 20 results that come up after they run a search.
