A smartphone reportedly designed by Google is unlikely to be marketed by the search engine without input from others.
This is the assertion made by Leigh Geary of CoolSmartPhone.com, who explained that if Google should promote the handset by itself, it would displease its business partners.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Google has developed a handset called the Nexus One and made by HTC that it plans to sell directly.
But Mr Geary pointed out that Google has not yet confirmed the story.
He noted, however, that should Google sell the handset directly and promote it alone as its own product, its partners would be angered at the Open Handset Alliance could suffer.
"We're assuming therefore that this is a future HTC handset and Google are merely using it to bring a new user experience to customers," he said.
The Nexus One would reportedly run Android.
Gartner has said that smartphones comprise 14 per cent of all mobile devices sales in 2009.
