Social media 'will feature in 2010 internet trends'

16th December 2009

The use of social media is set to become more and more widespread in the new year, a marketing agency has predicted.

Alterian released its forecast for 2010, which will be of interest to those who create bespoke websites.

It predicts that social media will become even more popular and become the norm rather than a hyped-up trend.

Firms will even adopt social media policies to handle the platform, according to the agency.

Consumers will also become more empowered as they wield greater control over brand value, Alterian said.

In addition, it believes that firms will be forced to make use of monitoring, analytics and execution software in order to survive, pointing out the rising use of the internet for business practices.

The Internet Advertising Bureau revealed in September that online advertising spending exceeded that of television in the first six months of 2009.

Internet advertising became the largest single advertising platform in the UK.
