Google's Android 'could overtake iPhone'

15th December 2009

Android from Google may become more popular than the iPhone, according to new research.

OneNewsPage.com carried out a poll in which 77 per cent of respondents predicted that the new Android will become more dominant than the famous Apple smartphone.

The news will be relevant to those who deal in mobile applications development.

Fraser McDonald, who edits Stuff magazine, said that Android's software is "a viable alternative to the iPhone", though he noted that its mobile applications store is not yet equal to Apple's.

He also pointed out that Android can run the internet and email both at the same time, which could give it an edge for consumers who are interested in multi-tasking.

UTalkMarketing.com published the results of OneNewsPage.com's survey.

Mashable.com recently carried out a poll in which 66 per cent of 5,045 respondents favoured the Android, while 30 per cent plumped for the iPhone when asked to give their preference.
