Mobile applications development is being sparked partly by the legal industry, according to an expert.
Mike Suchsland, senior vice-president for Thomson Reuters division West, told What PC? that the sector was making itself established within the world of mobile apps.
"We are fascinated by the shift that legal professionals are making towards smartphones and e-readers," he said, adding that his firm's own applications for the iPhone and iPod touch have been well-received by users.
Mr Suchsland said that mobile applications development is the logical progression for advanced media tactics and spoke of the benefits of getting information available on mobile devices.
Tim Gibbons, who co-founded Social Media Portal, recently stated that website design needs to account for mobile access.
He explained that smartphones are advancing and becoming better suited for social media, but that web design should accommodate mobile devices even if they are not driven by social networking.
"One word for you - applications," he said.
