Website design should include blogging as part of a social media strategy, a professional has said.
In an article for Practical Ecommerce, Lawrence Cramer explained that a blog makes a company seem more reliable and suggested using links from social media websites to drive traffic to it.
Keeping people engaged once the blog is set up is also useful and firms should aim to make funny and interesting posts to bring in more readers and make them stay.
Businesses should also maintain a "lurking" presence on social media websites to get an idea of what the conversations are about before getting involved in them.
Mr Cramer also highlighted "the difference between communicating and selling" and urged firms just to "listen, help and tell" rather than make sales pitches.
Trevor Ginn recently used an Econsultancy blog post to stress the benefits of blogging.
He also recommended that businesses join social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.
