Website design 'must consider security'

26th November 2009

Commercial websites should take security into account when planning their web design, according to a professional.

Tony Neate, managing director for Get Safe Online, highlighted the danger of screen scraping, which is when websites are copied in full.

Victims of screen scraping could find the copiers steal their identity or take data from the website.

Intellectual copyright could also be breached.

Mr Neate stressed that this is especially worrisome for business websites and urged firms to take action to keep themselves secure.

"You need to make sure you've got sufficient advice and software protection to make sure that sort of thing doesn't happen to you," he said.

Get Safe Online is an internet security awareness campaign that has been running for five years.

It works in partnership with other organisations including the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA) and the government.

SOCA is sponsored by the Home Office but its operations are independent of it.
