Website design 'must consider customer requirements'

23rd November 2009

Businesses have to ensure that their bespoke web design caters for customer needs, according to a professional,.

In an Internet Retailing article, Stephen Pratley explained that aesthetics alone are not enough to build web design upon and urged marketers to keep users' viewpoints in mind.

He noted that they may wish to find out details such as product availability, store locations and to locate goods that they may have seen in the press.

Mr Pratley identified three different aspects of website design, which he categorised as visual, functional and technical.

Graphic designers would be responsible for the first, while the second relies on a good software interface and the third is about web development, such as making sliding menus visible to search engines.

Last week, Practical Ecommerce author Jill Kocher warned against leaving old content forgotten on a website.

She said that firms can continue to capitalise on links and also warned against duplicated content.
