A police force has revamped its website design in order to incorporate social media.
West Midlands police carried out the redesign to make its website more compatible with blogs and Facebook, while it is also using keyword-rich Twitter tweets to help stay in touch with people in the area.
Spokesperson Inspector Mark Payne told the BBC: "More and more people are using social media to communicate and if that's where people are talking, that's where we need to go."
The broadcaster revealed that a number of police forces, including North Yorkshire, are adopting social media.
West Midlands used YouTube and Twitter during a recent demonstration by the England and Wales Defence League in Birmingham to keep people aware of what they were and were not permitted to do and to show the public how they policed the event.
A new website, MyPolice, is even being set up to help forces who want to join in.
West Midlands is the country's second biggest police force.
The area it covers contains nearly 2.6 million people and spans 348 square miles.
