Mobile application development has branched into social media as a new app store has been launched using Facebook.
The page for Mplayit contains an "apptivity" feature to let users see trends and find out which applications are most popular for playing, reviewing and downloading.
Apptivity will extend to allow people to see what their friends are using the store for as well.
While Mplayit already caters for the iPhone, its plan is to extend to BlackBerry and Android as well.
The store's founder and chief executive officer Michael Powers said that Mplayit could bring "a much deeper and more enjoyable trial and share experience than can be accomplished on the mobile device alone".
Gartner recently released a list of the ten biggest trends for mobile application development that it expects to see in 2012.
The top prediction was money transfer, followed by location-based services and then mobile search.
Research director Sandy Shen said that people would use a maximum of five apps at a time.
