Graphic designers may need to pay more attention to the load speed of webpages, Google has suggested.
The search giant implied that it will alter its algorithms to give preference to websites that load more quickly.
Matt Cutts, a software engineer for Google, spoke to WebProNews about page speed.
"Historically, we haven't had to use it in our search rankings, but a lot of people within Google think that the web should be fast," he said, adding that quicker websites may deserve a "bonus".
The expert suggested that loading speed will become more of a focus for customers in the next year.
Page loading speed has also been flagged up by Kristina Knight in a Biz Report article.
She warned that a tailor made website may still lose conversions and business if it is too slow to load.
Ms Knight urged companies to keep speed in mind when creating priorities for bespoke web design.
