The part of a website page that shows above the fold can be used for ecommerce benefits, a writer has stated.
Graham Charlton used an entry for the Econsultancy blog to point out that this is the first part of a page visitors see when they initially visit a website.
He said that they will look at it to decide whether or not to stay on the site and gave a list of things that should be placed here.
For product pages, these include descriptions, prices, photos and the basket or checkout button.
A homepage needs the same button and also any delivery offers and information about recent consumer news, such as details about Christmas deliveries.
Practical Ecommerce writer Danna Crawford recently urged people with online businesses to optimise their websites for local markets.
She suggested doing this by using a local town's name as a keyword and using it with phrases such as "small business".
