Website SEO 'should cater for longtail phrases'

29th October 2009

Longtail phrases need to be taken into consideration for a website's search engine optimisation (SEO) campaign, a writer has said.

Stuck On author Carl noted that many SEO strategies involve optimising around six keywords and phrases.

But he observed that use of longtail phrases, involving more words and greater variety, is increasing.

Carl urged people to focus on these and optimise the entire website towards them.

He gave an example of a longtail phrase as "elegant wedding stationery" instead of simply "stationery".

"You shouldn't limit your keywords unnecessarily," Carl advised.

A company chief executive officer recently wrote of how he managed to improve his online advertising performance by using longtail keyphrases.

Stephen Pazyra used an Adotas article to explain how switching to terms such as "gluten-free cake" rather than simply "cake" had benefited his bakery firm.

His company's keyword database is now becoming "more personalised and unique as it grows over time".
