Ecommerce 'can benefit from local optimisation'

28th October 2009

Owners of ecommerce businesses have been advised to look at optimising their websites for local clients.

In a blog post for Practical Ecommerce, Danna Crawford suggested looking into localising search engine optimisation efforts by using one's own town as a keyword combined with phrases such as "small business" or "blogs".

She also suggested using abbreviations for local areas as well as the full name to try to maximise the optimisation efforts.

"There is a ton of local opportunity waiting for you to explore," Ms Crawford stated, explaining also that she believes local commercial potential is often overlooked.

Social media can also be exploited for ecommerce purposes as they help to find local people.

Another Practical Ecommerce blogger, Dale Traxler, recently pointed out that the nature of SEO has been changing for online businesses.

One example of this is the introduction of the search engine Bing.

Mr Traxler also noted that pay-per-click ad results changed for him when he used different internet browsers.
