How to improve website content

26th October 2009

Website content needs to be contextualised and capture attention quickly, it has been claimed.

The Los Angeles Public Relations Firms publication outlined a number of qualities website content needs to fulfil to be effective.

As well as keeping its context, or sales pitch, clear, headlines need to be written and presented so as to get the reader interested within a few seconds.

Information should be given quickly, briefly and clearly to keep users on the page.

Pictures can be more attention-grabbing than text, while attractive web design is more likely to keep people reading.

The publication also called for more personal copy such as "we decided" over "it was decided".

Last month, Small Business Computing ran an article by James A Martin in which the author spoke to several website owners and experts who said that search engine optimisation (SEO) is crucial in online marketing.

Matt McGee of Search Engine Land said that few people look at more than the first two pages of a search result.
