Car security could be a focus of future mobile applications, a report has stated.
According to Hitomi Larson of iSuppli, elements of remote car control and safety measures are already in existence.
The automotive electronics analyst told Cellular News that these features are present in Toyota's G-Security system in Japan and that Nissan is also bringing mobile controls to the country.
"While it seems futuristic, mobile device in-vehicle connectivity interface is nothing new," he said.
The magazine speculated that technology may even advance to having mobile applications that send alerts of car thefts to owners' smartphones and then allowing them to watch video footage of the car's interior, locate the vehicle's position and inform the authorities.
Another area for mobile applications that is reportedly seeing development is augmented reality.
The London Evening Standard carried details of various applications such as one which can draw information from Wikipedia about local buildings.
Stuff magazine journalist Tom Dunmore said that augmented reality has a lot of potential.
