Mobile phone applications are becoming more popular partly because they are so easily accessible.
This is the claim made by Rhodri Marsden in the Independent.
He pointed out that consumers are no longer bound by their network providers or having to download applications to a computer first.
"Many of the apps are free; we can try them out and if we don't like them, we can dump them," he observed.
In addition, Mr Marsden noted that applications are more attractive to consumers even if the services they offer have been available before.
He used the music identifying app Shazam as an example, explaining that a phone line service had previously existed to let users know the name of a song.
The Times also recently reported the rapid growth of the mobile application market.
Will Harris, marketing director for Nokia UK, pointed out that mobile can now be used for anything that could be done on a computer.
