Website SEO 'should be changed for Christmas'

8th October 2009

Search engine optimisation (SEO) needs to be tailored for the Christmas market, an expert has said.

Hal Pritchard of Everton Online told Australian publication Smart Company that his firm makes changes to its SEO strategy as the festive season draws near.

"You need to associate your business with Christmas somehow, put Christmas into your titles and keywords and start putting that into people's heads," he explained.

Mr Pritchard recommended starting the new strategy early to attract as much Christmas traffic to a website as possible.

Ruslan Kogan of Kogan Tech stressed the importance of tweaking website design in order to capitalise on the festive season, comparing ecommerce to bricks and mortar stores in this regard.

Other holiday season tips for ecommerce have come from Amanda Brooke of Drop Ship Access.

She urged people to start planning their strategy early and devise email marketing and news letters.

Ad budget also needs to be carefully distributed over the festive period rather than focused on just one or two days.
