Website design 'needs to be tailored for foreign countries'

7th October 2009

Ecommerce owners who want to pitch to foreign countries need to adapt their website design as well as translating their copy.

This is the statement made by Simon George in a blog post for UTalkMarketing.

He pointed out that certain colours may be offensive in some countries or it may be unwise to list certain ones next to each other if there is conflict going on between them.

According to Mr George, not altering graphic design along with content is a major error when translating websites for other countries.

"Businesses need to realise that their customer bas is constantly expanding and diversifying as the se of the web as part of our everyday lives continues to evolve," he observed.

In another recent blog entry for the same source, Mr George noted that websites would increasingly need to be available in different languages.

He said that as the internet becomes more and more important, even smaller firms would find themselves dealing with more diverse clients.
