Keyword stuffing 'bad for a website'

6th October 2009

Ecommerce websites should not have their content "keyword stuffed", a writer has stated.

In an SEO Consult article, an author identified as James warned that doing this to lead to a website being banned from a search engine.

Noting that searchers want relevant results, James explained: "Keyword stuffing will be seen as spam."

He also pointed out that website visitors will not be attracted by the practise.

James did add, however, that keyword analysis programmes could be used to help make content rank better in search engines.

Keyword stuffing is generally defined as putting too many keywords on to a website page to affect its positioning in a search.

This might be done by inserting keywords repetitively into a meta tag or hiding them in the website by making them same colour as the background and therefore not visible.

It is considered bad practise to keyword stuff a website.

Google has warned that it does not make for a positive user experience and suggests creating optimised and useful content instead.
