Website owners whose ecommerce has an international remit have been given help on their search engine optimisation (SEO) strategy.
In an article for Search Engine Watch, Ron Jones identified issues that may affect ecommerce websites that sell outside the UK, such as different keywords being popular in various countries.
He suggested using language experts to help with keyword research in order to reach the target market and advised against simply using translation.
"Getting the keywords right can be an arduous task, but it will pay dividends if it's done correctly," Mr Jones explained.
Keyword testing can also help to improve SEO for international purposes.
Another Search Engine Watch writer, Bill Hunt, has also written about international SEO.
He pointed out that content which suits regions will not necessarily work for more localised campaigns.
Mr Hunt also noted that using the same content several times over will not reach different markets, as search engines will realise they are copies and not display them all.
Such ecommerce copy needs to be made unique for each market through content such as local phone numbers or currency.
