Owners of Android mobile devices download an average of ten new applications a month, new figures have shown.
According to AdMob's Mobile Metrics report for July, Android was on par with the iPhone in terms of monthly downloads, although iPod Touch users were found to download 18 apps a month on average.
Over 90 per cent of those with Android and iPhone devices were discovered to browse and search for new mobile applications directly from their phones rather than a traditional computer.
When asked what prompts them to buy a paid app, users cited upgrading from a lite version of the app as the main reason.
A recent report from mobile app store Handango revealed that the top apps downloaded by Android users in the first half of 2009 were Texas Hold'Em, SimCity Metropolis, Monopoly Here & Now, SplashID and Bejeweled.
Overall paid app sales for the Android platform tripled between January and June 2009 compared with the end of last year.
