The ability to quickly tweak ecommerce website design strategies is one of the main factors behind the continuing growth of online shopping.
This is according to James Roper, chief executive of IMRG, who explained that online retailers are better able to defend their margins than high street stores as it is easy to keep an eye on competitors and fine-tune websites as they see fit.
"As an example, all online retailers constantly watch their competitors and they test their sites, and when their competitors run out of a product, they put their prices up," he remarked.
Mr Roper went on to predict that UK ecommerce sales growth will stand at 25 per cent next year.
His comments came after the latest IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index showed that July's online sales rose by 15.7 per cent compared with the previous month.
It also revealed that £4.2 billion was spent on purchases from ecommerce websites last month.
