Apple has accepted Spotify's app for the iPhone into the iTunes store.
The approval comes after weeks of speculation over whether the company would allow the app to compete with its own iTunes service.
Only premium users of Spotify - those who pay a monthly a fee for ad-free streams - can download the app, which is otherwise free to access.
Spotify previewed a version of the app for Android devices earlier this year.
Speaking to BBC News, Spotify founder Daniel Ek said the company was unsurprised at the decision but "thrilled".
He went on to predict that the app would help to boost its premium subscriber numbers further.
"We're scaling up the systems because response has been tremendous even before the app is available," Mr Ek commented.
Spotify is currently accessible by users in Sweden, Norway, Finland, the UK, France and Spain.
