Web design professionals have been urged to make ecommerce websites more usable to boost sales.
According to ZippyCart, it can be a good idea to limit any distractions in the online checkout process, such as ads, shipping and customer information, and confirmation of address.
Web developers should instead ensure checkout pages concentrate on one step at a time to make it easier for customers to complete the transaction, the website says.
Another way to improve usability is to ensure shoppers are able to find specific products via model and part numbers in as many ways as possible, ZippyCart states, noting that customer tend to only know a few things about the item they want when they visit an ecommerce site.
"You want to make sure you have a visible way for them to search the site generically or specifically by model or part number. This will help ensure you convert more visitors," it explains.
According to web design expert Jakob Nielsen, web designers should also attempt to boost the usability of wishlist and gift certificate functions on ecommerce websites to attract more new customers.
