A mobile internet solution that can work on virtually every handset is needed to ensure the web is available to everyone, the chief executive of Opera has asserted.
"People are using the mobile web more intensively," said Jon von Tetzchner, who added that the latest findings from the company indicate that people will be encouraged to browse more if a universal mobile internet solution can be developed.
Last month, the number of Opera Mini users who had chosen to install the browser on their mobile handset increased by 9.9 per cent compared to June 2009.
The firm noted that this represents a 145 per cent increase when compared with the same month last year and data traffic increased 223 per cent within the 12-month period.
In total, more than 12 billion pages were viewed by Opera Mini users last month, the company added.
Hoteliers are among the mobile marketers who are best-placed to take advantage of the increasingly popular mobile internet, according to TravelMole.
Creating a mobile website and including text messages in future marketing plans are two ways in which travel firms can boost their profiles among mobile users, the site suggested.
