A new study by comScore has revealed that British mums frequently visit ecommerce websites.
Six of the top ten website categories for mothers aged between 25 and 54 were retail-related ones, with the toys sector coming out on top.
Other popular ecommerce website categories included fragrances/cosmetics, kids entertainment, shipping and food.
Mike Read, senior vice-president and managing director of comScore Europe, said the statistics show that mothers are a particularly important segment when it comes to online shopping.
"It is critical for marketers and retailers to understand how to reach this audience online and influence their spending behaviour - both online and offline," he commented.
Last month's IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index showed that a growing number of online shoppers are conducting research before making a purchase from an ecommerce website.
Mike Petevinos of Capgemini UK said this offered an opportunity for retailers to conduct website design activities to improve the online experience for these shoppers.
