Retailers looking to expand internationally should carefully consider how they go about translating their ecommerce websites into different languages.
This is according to Armando Roggio of Practical eCommerce, who advised ecommerce website owners to rewrite their English page copy so that it is as straightforward and easy to translate as possible.
They should then prepare a translation document containing a list of all of the text that needs to be converted into another language to give to a professional translator, he said.
"You must hire a reputable and professional translator with particular expertise in the languages you will be using and the industry you serve," Mr Roggio commented.
According to Forrester Research, the global online population will reach 2.2 billion in four years' time, with China, the US, India, Japan and Brazil set to account for the highest proportion of worldwide internet users by 2013.
Online spending will remain the highest in North America, western Europe and the developed parts of Asia, the analyst says.
