Web 2.0 'can aid ecommerce website design'

18th August 2009

Ecommerce web design professionals could benefit from using Web 2.0 and social media to enhance their sites, it has been suggested.

Linda Bustos of the Get Elastic blog noted that certain forms of Web 2.0 - such as shopping widgets and social networks like Twitter and Facebook - can improve the online experience for consumers while also improving the retailer's reputation and exposure.

She highlighted customer reviews as the top use of Web 2.0 in ecommerce, noting statistics from Bazaarvoice showing that top-rated product categories can deliver a 35 per cent higher conversion rate and a 40 per cent higher average order value for businesses.

"Customer reviews directly impact conversion, boost customer satisfaction and reduce complaints and expenses for returns," Ms Bustos remarked.

"Reviews are also assets you can leverage in email, in-store signage and offline circulars."

According to Forbes.com, businesses can benefit from including both negative and positive reviews on their websites to build trust among customers and show that they are responsive to constructive feedback.ADNFCR-2036-ID-19317981-ADNFCR
