Ecommerce website usage will rise in the UK during the next four years, a new report from eMarketer has predicted.
According to the research firm, 72.5 per cent of UK web users over the age of 14 will make a purchase from an ecommerce website this year, rising to 75.7 per cent of users in 2013.
Some 31.8 million people in total will conduct online shopping activities in four years' time, although it is unlikely that consumers will spend more online due to the current recession, eMarketer said.
"For the first time ever, ecommerce activity in the UK is not supported by a buoyant economic climate. Consumers at all income levels say they are reining in spending," remarked eMarketer senior analyst and report author Karin von Abrams.
UK online sales will rise by 12 per cent in the second half of this year compared with the same period in 2008, according to the IMRG Capgemini e-Retail Sales Index.
