New research has revealed that a significant proportion of ecommerce firms hire web design professionals to work on their websites.
The poll by Practical eCommerce found that about four in ten online retailers had used the services of a professional web designer for the purpose of coding HTML, CSS, JavaScript and basic content management in the past.
It also discovered that 66.7 per cent of ecommerce firms with revenues of more than $10 million (£6.1 million) a year hire web development professionals for more advanced website-related tasks such as customised shopping carts and tailored applications.
"Since web development is often associated with some form of customisation, it is not surprising that relatively larger companies tended to be more likely to use professional web development services," Armando Roggio of Practical eCommerce commented.
A study from Eurostat indicates that 26 per cent of European Union companies had a fully transactional ecommerce website last year.
